Embark on an unforgettable journey to the renowned Cova des Coloms cave, starting from the picturesque Cala Romántica beach, originally known as Estany d’en Mas. As we make our way through the idyllic Mediterranean coastal landscape, with the sea as our backdrop, a trail adorned with lush Mediterranean vegetation, including mastic trees, grey-leaved cistus, rosemary, scale-leaf junipers, and Aleppo pines, awaits us.
Arriving at the secluded Cala Falcó cove, we’ll gear up to access the cave, perched on the cliffs approximately 250 meters away from the cove. We’ll take a refreshing swim from the cove to the cave’s entrance. Once inside, prepare to be awestruck by the vastness of the galleries and the incredible formations that have evolved over thousands of years through natural chemical reactions. Marvel at the stunning stalactites, stalagmites, columns, and crystal-clear freshwater lakes that adorn the cave’s interior. Get ready to immerse your senses in this extraordinary experience.
Our visit inside the cave will last approximately 2 hours, allowing ample time to appreciate its wonders. Afterward, we’ll retrace our steps, returning to the starting point, filled with unforgettable memories of our underground adventure.
To reach Cala Romántica or Estany d’en Mas, there are different options depending on your location on the island:
– If you’re coming from Portocristo via the Ma-4014 road, drive until you see a left turn towards the residential areas of Cala Magrana and Cala Mendia. After approximately 2.5 km, you’ll find the left turn indicated with the name of the cove.
– If you’re coming from Manacor, take the Ma-4015 road and head towards the junction with Ma-4014. Once there, turn left towards Portocristo. After 1.5 km, you’ll see the right turn towards the cove.
If you’re coming from Felanitx or Portocolom, take the Ma-4010 road and then the turnoff for Ma-4014. Stay on this road until you reach the right turn indicated by the name of the cove, approximately 11 km away.
Once you’re on the road leading to the residential area, it’s easy to find the cove. Simply follow the signs to the beach at the end of the entrance road.
